Olive the Indie Game Developer?

Whoa!
You read right!

After chatting with my chosen family and my younger brother, I’m testing the waters and finally jumping headlong into my childhood dream. No more wishing and longing! No more trying to get into the other, far less friendly part of the industry. It’s time to stop dreaming and start doing! I’m going to become the change I want to see and join the video game industry as an indie game developer!

Except…it’s hard.

Which…I mean learning any new skill is going to be difficult. Learning a plethora of new skills even moreso. My first (unofficial) foray into the indie game scene is “Change of Plans,” a prototype visual novel that serves as proof of concept for my ability to understand Ren’Py, a not-so-visual-learner-friendly program that, if you’ve expressed interest in making a visual novel, you’ve probably heard about.

Change of Plans is, for all intents and purposes, a living, breathing prototype. I’ll be running back and forth between this and my larger project (TBA) to test my understanding of Ren’Py (and Python in general). I don’t know how the larger project is going to pan out, but I’ve been writing and rewriting and researching and…phew.

Phew.

One of my good friends even asked me if I was going to post the project on Steam or have a Kickstarter or–!
And while I’m beyond intimidated (even posting it on itch.io was nerve-wracking), I do have hope that I’ll be able to just…I dunno.
Do the thing.
I’m doing a lot of recordings of my experience as a rookie game developer, and I’m hoping that, in the future, I won’t have as many pitfalls with trying to learn and execute my understanding of this programming language. Which may take a while, considering I ALSO WANT TO MAKE A FIGHTING GAME AND AN RPG OR W/E AND

Anyway, feel free to check out Change of Plans. It’s free to play, very short, and always evolving as I learn more and more about Ren’Py.

And of course if you’re excited about me doing things and want to support me, please share this little blurb around!

Thanks a ton. I appreciate you. <3

Much love,
Olive
